What you'd do

This position serves as a Cook with the Division of Clinical Services. These positions are located at the Zuni Service Unit, Zuni, NM. The primary purpose of these positions is being responsible for performing a wide variety of food service and cooking functions based on regular or modified diets, sanitation, and service duties. Incumbent will be subject to working rotating shifts. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Major duties

Prepares, assembles, measures ingredients, and cooks a variety of items including regular and special diet entrees and dessert items. Prepares breakfast items, entrees, vegetables, soups, sauces, salads, desserts, breads, and pudding without the use of packaged mixes. Sets up and serves tray lines with hot and cold food items. Portions food items into standard serving sizes using proper utensils and containers, following established regular and modified diet menus. Reads and understands diet cards, menus, and services appropriate food items for modified diets. Following established sanitation and safety procedures, operates a variety of powered and mechanical equipment including mixers, grinders, slicers, steamers, ovens, fryers, coffee brewers, steam tables, grills, ranges, and dish machines, as well as freezers, refrigerators, knives, and scales. Directs and instructs, as necessary, Food Service Workers. Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks throughout the department. Stores food and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
