About the Position: This position is located within David Grant Medical Center, Travis AFB, California. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Major duties

Design and fully perform all procedures for fabricating and repairing complex Fixed Dental Prostheses (FDPs) to include all-ceramic, full metal, porcelain fused to metal crowns, inlays/onlays, implants, bridges, and semi-precision appliances. Verifies adaption of restoration to master die, adjusts, and final polishes to meet service component's quality standards. Prepare dental impressions and generates all manner of dental casts for fixed prosthodontic use to include both solid and pin-indexed styles. Finish restorations with carbide burs as well as ceramic-bonded and rubber-bonded abrasives in order to achieve proper restoration fits and finishes. Independently perform the full range of work required to design, fabricate, and repair removable dental prostheses, to include complete and partial dentures. Consult with the dentist to give assistance with difficult design, path of insertion, problematic occlusal intra-oral prostheses, or to give assistance with difficult color and form matching for intricate fixed or removable intra-oral prostheses. Provide technical training to lesser experienced technicians to upgrade their skills.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Dental Laboratory Technician: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) fitting prostheses to meet the most exact specification required by dental standards; 2) scanning dental impressions to create fixed digital or stone models; and 3) checking for correct occlusion of prostheses by mounting on articulators to adjust, as necessary. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education: Two full years of graduate level education or a Master's Degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Dentistry. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 36. Add the two percentages. OR Licensed Dentist: Licensed professional dentists will be considered qualified for any grade level if they have, in the aggregate, the required experience in dental laboratory procedures.
