What you'd do

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This Accounting Technician position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Finance Center Mailroom. As an Accounting Technician, you will perform a variety of accounting-oriented technical support through the analysis and evaluation of civil and military accounting data.

Major duties

Executes and records complex accounting transactions, including obligations, cost transfers, and refunds, in line with fiscal policy. Maintains financial database integrity by identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving rejected transactions and system errors. Enforces internal control protocols to safeguard government funds against waste, fraud, abuse, and transactional errors. Serves as primary custodian for registered and certified mail, ensuring strict chain-of-custody and digital log accuracy. Operates a Government Vehicle (GOV) to conduct daily mail transport and distribution for consolidated military facilities. Investigates disputed documentation, drafts account status reports, and serves as liaison between finance and field units.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) Examining accounting documents to ensure completeness of data, accuracy of computation, appropriateness of monetary data, and validity of accounting classification; AND 2) Detecting and correcting coding errors of rejected transactions in an automated financial system; AND 3) Reviewing documents and researching records to resolve questions on data submitted; AND 4) Performing clerical support duties such as sorting, logging, and routing standard and accountable mail (certified/registered) and maintaining documentation control files. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
