What you'd do

This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Deputy Commandant for Mission Support, Director of Operational Logistics, Office of Base Operations (DOL-3), Facilities Engineering Department, Base Elizabeth City, Elizabeth City, NC.

Major duties

This position supports and facilitates the execution of an environmental compliance management plan (CMP), promoting sustainment of environmental compliance and sustainability across and throughout the complex. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Conducting and documenting environmental inspections, audits, and monitoring of facilities, operations, and activities to support compliance with environmental laws, regulations, permits, and unit compliance management plans. Supporting management of hazardous, universal, used oil, and other solid waste streams, including container handling, labeling, storage, inventory, and coordination of waste disposal in accordance with RCRA and other regulatory requirements. Providing administrative and technical support for hazardous materials management. Assisting with emergency preparedness and spill response. Maintaining environmental compliance records and data (e.g., inspection logs, waste inventories, manifests, sampling results) Serving as a technical point of contact for environmental support contracts (e.g., waste disposal, sampling, recycling, parts washer/oily rag services), monitoring waste streams and coordinating services with unit operations. What you need to qualify

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experience assisting with or conducting environmental inspections, audits, or monitoring of facilities, operations, or activities Experience handling or supporting management of hazardous waste, universal waste, used oil, and other solid waste streams in an industrial, maintenance, or operational environment. Experience maintaining environmental or technical records (e.g., inspection checklists, logs, manifests, sampling data). Experience participating in or supporting emergency preparedness and spill response activities, such as maintaining spill kits and response equipment, assisting with cleanup of minor spills, documenting spill events, or participating in drills or exercises in accordance with established plans and instructions.
