Dental Laboratory Technician

Job Description

Employee will be assigned to Dental Service, VA Outpatient Clinic, Tulsa, OK. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a mid-level dental laboratory technician. The work requires a high degree of skill and precision, a working knowledge of the general contour of supporting tissues, and articulation of its application to the fabrication of appliances.

Qualifications

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience which has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials; use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment; use of precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers; and construction of dental prosthetic appliances. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Successful completion of at least a 1/2 year (6 months) of graduate level education with course work that is directly related to the work of this position OR successful completion of a full 4-year apprenticeship program consisting of at least 2000 hours a year meets the requirements for GS-6. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. OR COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary but also requires standing, bending, reaching, lifting heavy materials, and general dental laboratory functions. This work involves periods of sitting and standing. It involves the use of various dental lab machines. Extensive and detailed use of the hands is required.
