About the Position: (THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE HIRNG FREEZE) Electrical engineer specialist with responsibility for design of electrical power distribution and control systems, electrical equipment layout, along with providing engineering during construction support for civil works projects such as Montgomery L/D and Kentucky Locks.

MUST MEET THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS IN THE EDUCATION SECTION AS WELL AS THE SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE IN THIS SECTION For the GS-12 level: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes:1) Prepares electrical power distribution and control systems design drawings, design calculations, and technical specifications; 2) reviews electrical portions of contractors/manufacturers shop drawings to evaluate the adequacy and practicability of the equipment or system design in conformance with contract requirements.3) Inspecting project designs to determine electrical requirements and adapting or modifying methods to resolve complex engineering issues, 4) Lead a multidisciplinary project design teams in the development of plans, specifications, and studies for engineering projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). For the GS-11: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Assists in the preparation of electrical power distribution and control system preliminary and final designs. Creates conceptual versions of contract drawings, as well as preliminary calculations, electrical equipment quantities. Participates on-site inspections during construction and periodic safety assessments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Engineering, Physics. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination education and experience: specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years. Compute the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
