Job Description
This position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Tomah (VISN 12) VA Medical Center (VAMC), Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE). The primary purpose of this position is to perform, patient transport services through the facility.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, facility applicants must meet all requirements within 15 days of the closing date of this announcement, 10/03/2025. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: FOR GS-02: Applicants must possess 3 months of any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Examples of general experience would typically include but is not limited to: transport of non-critical ill patients; the pickup and delivery of items such as specimens and clinical reports; and messenger service within the Medical Center. Transports Veterans by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to and from nursing units, clinical laboratories, and other related clinical areas. Assists Nurses with transporting critically ill Veterans by maneuvering the stretcher, wheelchair, or bed to the destination. Transports non-critically ill patients throughout the VAMC, which includes multiple separate buildings. Maintains effective interpersonal relationship with patients, significant others and co-workers directed toward patient care. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a High School diploma or equivalent. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Communications Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Patient Care Personnel Security and Safety Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work includes walking, standing, lifting, pushing Veterans/Visitors in wheelchairs, stooping, reaching, sitting, bending. Practice proper body mechanics.
