Job Description
The Health System Specialist -Credentialing and Privileging Specialist is assigned to the Medical Staff Office, which is under the Chief of Staff at the Roseburg VA Medical Center and is responsible for providing administrative and technical direction and support to the credentialing and privileging (C&P) operations. The C&P Specialist is aligned to and supervised by the C&P Manager.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/27/2025. Applicants must meet the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR). An IOR is a basic requirement that must be met in order to qualify for the GS 0671 occupational series. Education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. To qualify for this occupational series, applicants must have one of the following listed below: Undergraduate or graduate education with a major field of study such as hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration (Transcript required).OR, Specialized experience: Progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field: This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. Work must have involved a close working relationship with facility managers and analysis and/or coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities, and provided knowledge of the following: Missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems. Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; and Government-wide, agency, and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement. In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, applicants may qualify based on their experience and/or education as described below: To qualify for this position at the GS-7 level, you must meet one of the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-5) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of basic principles and practices of the credentialing and privileging program in conducting analytical reviews, managing and tracking data, and serving as an advisor to leadership on key processes sufficient to: performing highly structured entry level work designed to develop broader and more in depth knowledge and skill to perform higher level assignments, communicate factual and procedural information clearly, orally, and in writing, and gather/ analyze basic facts and draw conclusions. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR, EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: (Must see Education Section below) To qualify for this position at the GS-9 level, you must meet one of the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-7) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Extensive knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, policies, and precedents; Extensive knowledge of basic principles, provisions, and practices of credentialing and privileging; Applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations; advising leadership on documentation requirements for provider practice, clinical competency, and credentialing requirements; evaluate and recommend ways to improve work operations in the program; Using software applications for data entry, file maintenance, and data retrieval and analysis.
