Job Description

This position is in the Washington Headquarters Services, Facilities Services Directorate, Facilities Operations and Services Division (FOSD), Facilities Services Group, Alterations Work Group (AWG). AWG performs major and minor buildings and facilities repair/renovations in the National Capital Region.

Read more about what should I include in my federal resume? at https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/faq/application/documents/resume/what-to-include/ SCREEN-OUT Element: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision You may qualify at the WG-5 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 4 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: perform the journeyman level of Maintenance Mechanic tasks, including applying trade methods and techniques for masonry, carpentry, painting, glazing, roofing, and door systems repair; plan, layout, and complete the installation, modification, and repair of various systems and equipment. You may qualify at the WG-8 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 7 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: perform an intermediate level of Maintenance Mechanic tasks, including operating, repairing, and maintaining buildings and building support systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical and structural systems; interpreting mechanical, electrical and structural drawings and blueprints; applying techniques for masonry, carpentry, painting, glazing and roofing. You may qualify at the WG-10 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 9 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: perform the full range of Maintenance Mechanic tasks, at the highest journey level, including operating, repairing, and maintaining buildings and building support systems including applying trade methods and techniques for masonry, carpentry, painting, glazing, roofing, and door systems repair; plan, layout, and complete the installation, modification, and repair of various systems and equipment; read, interpret, and apply guidelines to building plans, specifications, blueprints, wiring and engineering diagrams; use gas and electric welding equipment; perform complex brickwork; and maintain, repair, alter and construct exterior and interior surfaces and structures built with brick, block, and stone. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
