Job Description
This position is part of the The John F Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of the Kennedy Center Facility, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Physical Efforts and Working Conditions: Work on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where systems and equipment are located. Works in hard-to-reach places, stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weight up to 80 pounds in the performance of assigned duties with supporting Personal Protective Equipment. Occasionally lifts and carries items that weigh over 80 pounds with assistance. The incumbent is exposed to all kind of weather extremes and temperatures. Works inside or outside; and subject to heat, cold, and inclement weather. Exposed to dirt, grease, noise, odor, smoke, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, bums, and electrical shock. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of this job. Incumbent works on ladders, scaffolding and on 90-foot aerial lifts. The position is subject to noise and vibrations, gases, and fumes, dirt and dust from operating various power and hand tools and equipment. The incumbent is designated as an "Emergency Essential" employee and is required to report to work during hazardous weather conditions and emergencies when other government agencies are excused from reporting to work. The incumbent is responsible for making immediate decisions during emergencies. This work may be done in collaboration with contractors or staff from other disciplines. He or she will sustain effort during emergencies until they are controlled and contained and will then notify supervisors and relay instructions to qualified mechanics on the next shift. Incumbent may be required to work overtime with little or no prior notice. Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
