Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as the Master, Tender of diesel-powered towboats that are used to tend the floating plant in the fleet, assemble tows, move crane barges, and push tows in support of the Dredge Potter and its mission.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Master Tender (Dual Rate) ~ without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in operating small towing vessels, performing routine maintenance, minor and/or major repairs on a tow or vessel, and providing and/or interpreting instructions to support operational tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Operating the vessel requires standing for long periods with continual hand and eye coordination. Physical effort is required in performing mechanical repairs. On occasion, may be required to lift equipment or items weighing over 40 pounds to complete tasks. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and is subject to drafts and variable temperatures. Cabin is moderately noisy from engine. Work is dirty and greasy when making adjustments and repairs to engines or equipment and operator is subject to greater noise levels and other chemical substances when completing these tasks. Hazards include occasional danger of falling overboard, drowning, falls on slippery decks or in climbing steep stairways, and injury from moving machinery. The incumbent is subject to hazards of heavy river traffic at night and during foggy weather.
