Motor Vehicle Operator

The primary purpose of this position is to operate a motor vehicle in the daily pick up and distribution of all types of laundry, linen, patient clothing, and uniforms between North Chicago VA Medical Center and Great Lakes Navel Station.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Great physical effort is needed to maneuver the longer and heavier vehicles especially when backing these vehicles. Assists patients with limited mobility into and out of the patient transport vehicle which may involve physical exertion, stooping, and bending. Employee will work mostly outside and operates vehicles in all weather conditions and heavy traffic. Will be exposed to dirt, fumes, and incurs a possibility of injury while driving or when loading/unloading vehicles. Work is carried out on public highways and Interstate highway systems, on complicated roads and interchange systems as well as on medical center grounds. May be required to maneuver through and park in areas with limited space, restricted heights, and congested areas.
