Job Description

The Motor Vehicle Operator works in the Fleet Management Unit, Leestown Divisions' Engineering Service, at this medical center which serves both Leestown and the Cooper Divisions. This is an Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) set to close September 30, 2026. Applicants will be reviewed every 2 weeks beginning first review on October 21, 2025 and every 2 weeks afterwards. Applicant will be reviewed in order received.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2026. This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Possess a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for Class B, with P endorsement (authority to drive passenger buses) but (Do NOT upload). If an interview is requested, you will then be required to provide a copy of your current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) license is required for Class B, with P endorsement (authority to drive passenger buses). EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements:Physical effort pertaining to drivers ability to be alert and aware of his surroundings, conditions of the highway and driving at night. The physical and mental strain on the mind and body of the driver, which will leave the driver tense and his reflexes will be slowed. The driver should be required to stop and be able to walk, run or bend to regain his mental ability. Working Conditions: Work required incumbent to be outside and to drive in all types of weather conditions. There are many times during the winter when the incumbent is required to drive trucks and passenger vehicles in deep snow and on icy streets and highways. Under these conditions, vehicle control is extremely difficult and and requires rapid movement of arms and legs to keep vehicles from sliding, causing damage to property and/or individuals. Also in performing duties, incumbent is subject to dust, fumes, and traffic hazards find it necessary to effect emergency repairs. The operator is a regular driver on public highways and agency reservations. Driving involves both daylight and night driving hours.
