Qualifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: ¿ Moderate to heavy physical effort may be required to load or secure cargo and to maneuver long and heavy vehicles, especially when backing up. ¿ Lifts and carries objects up to 45 pounds independently and objects over 45 pounds with assistance. ¿ Stands, stoops, bends, lifts and may sit in uncomfortable and tiring positions for long periods. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must be able to obtain a Government Driver¿s License up to a GVW of 4,500 kg (10,000 lbs) at a level NA-05. 2. Must be 21 years of age in order to be considered for the NA-07 advanced level. 3. Must be able to proceed to the target level of NA-07 upon satisfactory completion and testing to operate vehicles up to 14,400 kg (32,000 lbs) and 62 passenger buses regardless of GVW. 4. Must be able to pass and maintain a Medical Examiners Certificate for Drivers. 5. Must be able to pass and maintain a Medical Examiners Certificate for MHE & WHE 6. Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedules to include night time, weekends and holidays. (Promotion to the advance grade level of NA-08 will be considered based on the incumbents ability to safely operate vehicles at an NA-07 level) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs): 1. Knowledge and skills in operating vehicles with manual shift transmissions which are high, wide, long, heavy, equipped with air brakes, have limited maneuverability, or are oversized and carry large groups of people where long periods of day and night driving may be required. 2. Ability to read street maps and reach unfamiliar locations as well as knowledge and skills in selecting safe, legal and alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic or other delaying conditions and must be familiar with the Japanese traffic laws. 3. Knowledge to make judgments concerning various vehicle¿s dynamic characteristics, overhead and side clearance, turning radius, braking distance, and the distance to be maintained from other vehicles. 4. Ability to safely operate and maneuver heavy vehicles in congested locations, evaluating conditions and load limits of bridges and in assessing traffic conditions and hazards locally and over long-distance routes in unfamiliar geographic areas. 5. Mechanical knowledge to perform minor repairs/adjustments and operator¿s maintenance on assigned vehicles. NOTE: This activity is a Drug-free workplace. The use of illegal drugs by NAF employees, whether on or off duty, cannot and will not be tolerated. Marijuana is a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act and therefore use of marijuana is illegal under Federal law regardless of State laws. A positive drug test result for marijuana or any other drug tested for will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and ineligibility to apply for a position within the Department of Defense for 6 months from the date of the drug test. This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP), being subject to unannounced random drug testing under the Department of Navy's Drug-Free Workplace Program. The selected applicant must have a negative drug test result before and during employment.
