Job Description
The official title of this position is Health Aid. The employee will serve as the initial contact for patients arriving at the San Juan VA Medical Center and will provide patient assistance in outpatient areas of the San Juan VA Medical Center, in San Juan, PR.
Qualifications
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: This position requires the ability to communicate proficiently, orally and in writing, in English and Spanish. IN ADDITION TO THE LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY, YOU MUST ALSO POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE OR EDUCATION TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION: Six months of General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. OR Education: Successful completion of one year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields. (Transcript required and must be received by the closing date of the announcement.) OR An equivalent combination of experience and education (i.e., 3 months of general experience and 6 months of education) as described above. (Transcript required and must be received by the closing date of the announcement.) You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Agility Computer Skills Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Infection Control Veteran and Customer Focus IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The position requires long periods of standing and walking, bending, stretching, and pushing on a recurrent basis. It also requires visual and auditory acuity at a level to enable the incumbent to perform his/her duties. The incumbent must keep his/her uniform clean and neat in appearance and must report to duty promptly as scheduled. When working at the main information desk the position requires sitting for at least two hours.
