Job Description
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Maintain and repair railroad tracks, equipment, and facilities.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Railroad Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common skills such as selecting the appropriate tools for planned railroad repair; operating common railroad repair tools such as spike pullers, rail saws, rail drills, tamping bar, wrench, or tamping bar. I can adhere to safety guidelines applicable to railroad maintenance, ensuring compliance with industry standards - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent performs extremely strenuous work for long periods. Work may require constant kneeling, crouching, lifting, pushing, and similar body and limb movements. The incumbent may be required to lift and carry equipment weighing over 80 pounds. All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent will be required to work outside in all types of weather and may be subjected to loud machinery noises, possible burn from hot equipment, fumes from creosote, smoke, dirt, falls and possible injuries from handling equipment.
