Supervisory Recreation Specialist - Sports Fitness and Aquatics Director

Job Description

Serves as Supervisory Recreation Specialist - Sports, Fitness, and Aquatics Director for Command Navy Region Northwest, Fleet and Family Readiness Program, Fleet Readiness Division. The primary purpose of this position is to plan and administer a comprehensive and diverse year-round total installation sports, fitness and aquatics program consisting of self-­directed and unit-level type programs and activities.

A qualified candidate will possess the following: Knowledge of goals, philosophy, principles, techniques and methods of procedures used in organizing, planning and administering a sports, fitness and aquatics programs as would be gained through a four-year undergraduate degree in Sports or Recreation Management or through three years of relative experience. This would enable the incumbent to apply the principles, concepts, and techniques of sports, fitness and aquatics administration for a military community. Must be capable of organizing and operating several facilities/programs simultaneously. Skill in dealing with people and knowledge of human relations sufficient to effectively perform supervisory duties such as counsel employees, develop performance standards and appraise employee performance, assign and direct work, resolve employee complaints, recruit, select, train and develop personnel. Knowledge and understanding of the Equal Employment Opportunity Program. Knowledge of sports and fitness sufficient to understand the physical and psychological effects of these activities in order to recognize the needs, physical capabilities, and physical limitations of participants and to develop, adapt, modify, expand, or otherwise change program/activity. Knowledge of a wide range of sports, fitness and aquatic activities and services that will support implementation of these services and activities for a large military community. Skill in the effective management and utilization of available resources and the ability to determine and justify the funds, travel, training, supplies and equipment needed to develop and carry out diverse sports fitness and aquatics program. Knowledge of a wide range of concepts, theories, principles, games rules, procedures which enable the incumbent to apply such information to insure a balanced program and contribute to appropriate activities for patrons. Knowledge of general business principles for financial planning/reporting and of the Department of the Navy budget process methods for appropriated and non-appropriated funds (NAF) to ensure optimum use of resources. Ability to plan, present, and execute budgets and to analyze impact on programs and to forecast long term funding requirements. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to solve problems with skill, tact and resourcefulness.
