Substation Operations Specialist
What you'd do
These positions are located with the Substation Operations (TOIZ) organization of System Operations (TO), Transmission Services (T), Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). A successful candidate in the Substation Operations Specialist position will provide substation operations technical expertise and leadership for the operation of BPA substations.
Major duties
As a Substation Operations Specialist, you will: Provide advice and guidance on substation operations to others within BPA. Act as spokesperson for assigned program management activities and serve as program liaison with other internal entities to ensure consistency of interpretation and implementation of the programs. Manage assigned programs as the subject matter expert and provide backup on other programs in the absence of the assigned program manager. Continually monitor, evaluate, and audit substation operations, and based on this review, establishes new and revised operations requirements, methods, and procedures for improving substation operations. Investigate routine and unusual operating errors and substation failures to ascertain cause and prevent future recurrence. Establish control, data, and indication requirements for operation of substations.
What you need to qualify
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience conducting analytical and evaluative studies of an organization's substation operations program to provide technical interpretation, instruction, training, or improvement to the operation of a high-voltage power substation. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.
