ENGINEER/SCIENTIST
What you'd do
This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15. You will serve as the Portfolio Lead for Long-Range Sensing Science and Technology (S&T) in the Electromagnetic & Sensor Systems Department, Electronic Warfare & Spectrum Operations Division, Advanced Electronic Warfare Prototyping Branch (Code B35) of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division.
Major duties
You will oversee and grow a portfolio of science and technology efforts in support of long-range sensing objectives. You will lead a team of scientists and engineers. You will be actively involved in strategic planning and technology roadmapping to align science and technology development with warfighter needs and Department of Defense priorities. You will propose research ideas and define and manage statements-of-work toward the development of new capabilities. You will collaborate closely with external organizations to advance science and technology concepts and promote involvement of developmental systems in military exercises. You will monitor research activity, evaluate technologies and products, and ensure strict adherence to security classification policy and guidance.
What you need to qualify
This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), a General Physical Scientist (1301-series), an Operations Research Analyst (1515-series), a Mathematician (1520-series), or a Computer Scientist (1550-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Applicants in positions with occupational series other than those listed (0801, 1301, 1515, 1520 and 1550) may apply; however, you must apply directly to the series listed in this vacancy that is most applicable to your qualifications. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-4 pay band (GS-12 and GS-13 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer or scientist advancing science and technology activities related to long range sensing. Examples of qualifying experience may include (1) involvement in the design, development, and testing of prototype capabilities or related electromagnetic concepts; (2) involvement in military exercises and operational test events; (3) participation in integrated product teams and research collaborations; (4) involvement with industry, academia, government, and sponsoring organizations/program offices.
