Major duties

You will analyze equipment malfunctions by visual and auditory inspection or by means of test equipment. You will perform leadership duties by demonstrating proper operating methods and explain any unusual steps and processes. You will perform the more difficult tasks while teaching and mentoring other employees in this trade. You will be responsible for all reports generated for the crew and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations during the shift. You will ensure hazardous waste and materials are properly stored, disposed of and tracked properly.

What you need to qualify

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Electric Power Controller Leader without more than normal supervision, performing duties such as: 1) Overseeing employees in the operation, maintenance and repair of electrical power generating; 2) Analyzing a variety of interrelated meter indications to detect abnormal operating conditions and make necessary corrections by adjusting controls to balance loads, change transformers taps to regulate voltage and isolate power failures by switching procedures; 3) Utilizing test equipment and tools of the trade to make repairs and interpreting circuit diagrams and equipment layout drawings in order to determine which electrical items can be operated; and 4) Maintaining and advising high voltage electric utility distribution system, and emergency standby generators; performing switching operations on high voltage electrical distribution systems to restore power, responding to emergency power failures and assuring personnel are in compliance with all safety environmental regulations.
