What you'd do

You will serve as an Equipment Specialist in the WHE Crane Certification Division, Public Works Department Yorktown of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Major duties

You will oversee the Command's Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) Rigging Gear Program. You will recommend and provide technical assistance as needed to improve the efficiency of WHE rigging gear usage. You will investigate and evaluate rigging gear failures, casualties, and disturbances to identify the root cause of issues and suggest solutions. You will plan and implement corrective actions to address problems arising from material or resource unavailability. You will conduct field visits to assess the scope and nature of issues related to WHE rigging gear and prepare detailed rigging procedures.

What you need to qualify

For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying weight handling theories, principles, methods, and procedures applicable to the operation and maintenance of a comprehensive range of weight handling equipment (WHE) and associated rigging gear; 2) Handling major issues, program goals and objectives, work processes, and administrative operations of a weight handling program; 3) Applying understanding of manufacturer's crane load capacity charts, load indicators, and complex lift plans as defined in the NAVFAC P-307. For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting maintenance, inspections, and testing of WHE, material handling equipment, personnel handling equipment, and rigging gear; 2) Reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, technical directives and manufacturer's instructions, manufactures technical manuals, shop repair manuals, etc.; 3) Interpreting numerous NAVFAC, NAVSEA, ANSI, ASME, and OSHA publications for WHE, material handling equipment, personnel handling equipment, and rigging gear.
