What you'd do

You will serve as a Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic in the Public Works Directorate of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Major duties

You will perform tests, alignment, and calibration of highly complex electronic systems. You will develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures for the system and associated components. You will service various electronic, electromagnetic, and electronic pneumatic instruments to maintain system reliability and efficiency. You will maintain records and document actions or important events. You will troubleshoot and diagnose problem areas and inspect for defective components. You will apply knowledge of voltage characteristics to recognize indications of improper operation and differentiate them from temporary anomalies. You will inspect systems, interpret gauge and meter readings, or recalibrate controls to maintain conditions or operation.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic without more than normal supervision performing duties such as 1) Monitoring and analyzing indications and readings for individual systems or subsystems to determine integrated system operational condition and isolate faults; 2) Setting up and operating electronic test equipment; 3) Solving difficult testing problems that arise by applying a broad range of electronic principles, analyzing malfunctions, and devising repair procedures; AND 4) Performing operational checks, calibration, and final testing of electronic instruments and equipment.
