What you'd do

You will serve as a NUCLEAR ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR (SHIPS) SUPERVISOR I in the NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major duties

You will oversee all the electronic and electrical systems inspections operations of a Nuclear Inspection Branch of a Department of the Navy shipyard. You will oversee the quality and quantity of the inspection work performed by subordinate nonsupervisory inspectors. You will ensure personnel are sufficiently trained in the processes and responsibilities of nuclear quality control to certify that specifications are adhered to. You will ensure the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assigned within the parameters established by the projects and Nuclear Inspection Division management. You will coordinate the unit’s work with other inspection, production and project groups as necessary. You will ensure that subordinates observe regulations and rules on maintaining a collaborative and professional work environment, housekeeping, conduct, and safety. You will be responsible for electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical processes, product and test inspections on assigned refueling and overhaul work. You will be responsible for maintenance of reactor grade cleanliness where required. You will be responsible for performing point-to-point inspections of complete electronic assembles and making resistance and capacitance measurements. You will perform pre-use inspections and marking of reactor plant materials and ensuring proper material control and marking is maintained on assigned work. You will coordinate work with other inspection supervisors to ensure consistent inspection effort and efficient utilization of manpower. You will ensure financial parameters for all work under assigned cognizance are met, or, when in jeopardy, communicated early with the project involved and division management.

What you need to qualify

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO SUPERVISE Ability to work with electrical equipment, such as wiring, motors, control equipment, and communications equipment. Ability to interpret diagrams, specifications, drawings, and interrelated procedure and technical requirement to most critical job application. Ability to apply full journeyman level or higher experience in the marine electronics trades and marine electrical trade or other closely related trades. Ability to obtain or possess current nuclear training and qualifications at the full journeyman level. Ability to lead other workers or supervise subordinates; deal objectively and harmoniously with them; and render sound decisions. Ability to apply knowledge of trade skills such as electronics mechanic and marine electrician. Ability to operate with dexterity and safety. Ability to apply knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments. Ability to apply knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments including current, voltage, resistance, Ohm's Law, series and parallel circuits, conductors, and insulators. Ability to work with others where the work depends on cooperation.
