PIPEFITTER SUPERVISOR
What you'd do
You will serve as a PIPEFITTER SUPERVISOR in the PIPE SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Major duties
You will recommend approval of normal leave requests, and forward unusual requests with recommendations to higher-level supervision. You will discipline subordinates and institute necessary corrective action to assure compliance with regulations. You will encourage participation and give assistance to employees on filing of beneficial suggestions, cost reduction, and promotional opportunities. You will ensure that necessary progress and other records are available for higher management use in area of responsibility.
What you need to qualify
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: *Resolves working problems and takes action to overcome bottlenecks, equipment breakdowns, material shortages, and other causes by delay and inefficiency. *Maintains records of individuals time, hours expended on work operations, cause of accident and injuries with corrective action to prevent reoccurrence. *Attends training programs , supervisors' conferences, and will transmit applicable information to subordinates. *Keeps all work operations under close observation and control. *Directs the accomplishment of work operations, within the limits of policies and basic work schedules , set by management officials through the use or oral or written instructions, as provided by higher levels of supervision.
