What you'd do

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the United States Park Police mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available within the police force, but crucial to support law enforcement operations. Major duties

The major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Answer routine question and provide assistance to callers or visitors, and resolve administrative issues clearly and tactfully. Tactfully deal with others in stressful situations. Maintain confidentiality on matters of a confidential or sensitive nature. Work and collaborate with a variety of workgroups to achieve common goals. Write clear, persuasive and grammatically correct reports, position papers, and briefings.

What you need to qualify

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/30/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs administrative/secretary duties and a typing proficiency of 40 words per minute with 3 or fewer errors is required. You MUST submit documentation or have stated in your resume of how you meet this requirement. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND -To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes all of the following: Providing program and administrative support; Operating office automation equipment in the preparation of reports, letters, memoranda, transmittals, etc.; Perform time keeping functions; Receiving/distributing incoming mail; Establish and maintain office files, calendars, and make arrangements for meetings/conferences such as space, people, time and travel arrangements. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
