This vacancy is for a GS-1801-13, PASSENGER VESSEL SAFETY PROGRAM SPECIALIST located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, D8 INSPECTIONS and INVESTIGATIONS BRANCH -DPI in NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana.
Major duties
You will serve as a PASSENGER VESSEL SAFETY PROGRAM SPECIALIST and be responsible for coordinating the activities of the field units within their AOR to maintain and enhance an effective passenger vessel prevention, preparedness and response program.. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Maintain an effective Passenger Vessel prevention, preparedness and response program Provide training and policy interpretation to the field and provide concerns to headquarters concerning implementation Promote and maintain effective standards for passenger and crew evacuation, life saving, fire prevention, vessel construction, inspection, crew training and qualifications and vessel movement control Promote risk-based decision making within industry regarding company and vessel management, operations and maintenance Periodically exercise the contingency and emergency response strategies with the local response community and all stakeholders Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application. What you need to qualify
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experienced T Boat/ Small Passenger Vessel Inspector. Reviewing, evaluating, and advising on the full range of activities associated with improving passenger vessel safety programs Providing oversight, technical and program advice, and direction in implementing and coordinating the passenger vessel safety program in the AOR Performing duties associated with the management and execution of an effective passenger vessel prevention, preparedness and response program for vessels operating in and out of U.S. ports, including U.S. domestic passenger fleet and vessels of foreign flagged passenger vessels operating out of U.S. ports Directing the preparation and periodic testing of emergency response protocols and contingency plans, ensuring seamless operational readiness and integration with local response authorities and stakeholders NOTE: All experience statements (i.e., duties, specialized experience, or related applicable assessment) copied from this announcement and pasted into your resume will not be considered as a demonstration of your qualifications for this position.
