What you'd do

The incumbent serves as the Physical Therapy supervisor/Section Chief for licensed Physical therapy practitioners within RMD with full responsibility and authority for the administrative planning, coordination, supervision, and direction to staff to ensure effective mission accomplishment. In this role, the incumbent uses specialized health science training and knowledge of current advances within physical therapy to support staff engaged in clinical research protocols.

Major duties

Formulating operational policy directives that form the framework for managing PT section activities, program direction, priorities and funding levels. Providing direct subject expert clinical care and Associate Investigator collaborative research with Clinical Center (CC) Institutes. Developing the budget for the Physical Therapy Section and is responsible for effective utilization of resources. Monitoring procurement and auditing processes associated with physical therapy purchases. Providing advice to the RMD Department Head on strategic planning to assure alignment with CC and NIH strategic goals. Coordinating and participating with senior management in the development and formulation of programs, budgets, policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines affecting clinical care, clinical research, and national outreach.

What you need to qualify

To qualify for a Supervisory Physical Therapist, GS-0633 you must: A. Possess a graduate or higher level degree that included: A physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND B. Completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. Licensure Requirement: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT). Additional Qualifications Requirements: You must demonstrate 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1.) Leading and mentoring physical therapists and health care trainees to ensure quality of physical therapy services; 2.) developing physical therapy assessments and programs that adhere to physical therapy guidelines for patients in clinical research programs; 3.) collaborating with physical therapists and other medical staff in the design and evaluation of physical therapy research projects; 4.) evaluating physical therapy techniques and providing recommendations to ensure compliance with clinical care and clinical research standards; and 5.) providing direct patient evaluation and treatment to biomedical research patients. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
